Question:
I want to know which state/federal Govt. agency can I complain to
regarding harrasment from a collection agency.
The collection agency is claiming that I owe $105 to some company
I last did business with in 1991. Thecollection agency contacted me
last week i.e after nearly 4 years. I told them the caller that
I didn't owe this company a penny, but to no avail.
Can somebody enlighten me the actions I can take against this
collection agency. ? I don't want this false claim to get into my credit
record.
Answer:
First, did you have ANY dealings with the company pursuing you?
If yes,do you have paid receipts.Send copies to collection company.
If no,ask the collection agency for copies of bills they want paid.
If you havent had ANY dealings with them, you really have little to worry
about. On the other hand,if you did,and just dont want to pay, they WILL
report this to credit companies, and,if any judgement was made against
you,INTEREST will be added to the debt.
I currently have a collection agency trying to collect debts from 5 years
to the present. They appear to be VERY good at it,somewhat like a
legalized Mafia
