Collection agency coming for very old account

Question:
I have a collection agency (Cadle Company") who has contacted me regarding an account which is over 17 years old. The account was charged off years ago and disappeared from my credit reports years ago too. I know also that the status of limitation has also expired on this account. The only problem is I have no official record that when this account was charged off or what was the last day of activity on the account. Can one obtain his credit records from 17 years ago with the negative information although they are erased?

Answer:
Are they phoneing or writing? If phone, tell them The statute of limitations has passed and according to the fair debt collection act they are not to contact you again, and that if this debt is reported to a credit agency, you will sue them for slander of credit as provided by fair debt collection act. If they wrote you. you MUST reply within 30 days certified mail return recipt and say the same thing. If you fail to respond within 30 days, they CAN LEGALLY COLLECT! Then wait a bit and check your credit reports. If this debt appears, dispute to the CRAs as being past the statute of limitations. Then find a hungry shyster and sue them.
